Getting Started as a Real Estate Investor

So what is the best way to get started as a real estate investor if you have no experience? The truth is that there is no secret method of making big money quickly from real estate investment, without a lot of due diligence. If you think of becoming a real estate investor for more than just a hobby, then you should seriously consider either paying big bucks for an education or working with a seasoned investor who knows what they are doing already.

Getting Started as a Real Estate InvestorLearning to be a Real Estate Investor

There are a couple of ways to go about this, learning from the ground up. Here is how to start:

  • Get a mentor – There is no need to learn everything first hand if you have someone who knows the ins and outs already. Their input will be invaluable in looking at the numbers, having access to qualified maintenance resources and helping you find funding. As with all education, you should be prepared to pay a fair amount of your beginning profits to have access to all this knowledge.
  • Learn from Associations – In your area are probably REI (Real Estate Investment) groups who meet regularly and who can help you get started. Oftentimes they will have speakers come in who will help you to get a broad education about Real Estate Investing.
  • Learn online – Okay, this is my least favorite because of all the sharks in the water out there. If you are considering an online class, try and look around all the hype and find ones that will give you piece of the puzzle that you may not know about now.

This approach on learning how to become a real estate investor is time consuming and can be risky as you are basically betting your own money that you are going to be good at something you are not already proficient at. On the up-side, you will eventually get to have your own properties that you will be able to renovate and resell or get profit out of by renting out the properties.

Getting Started As A Real Estate Investor The Easy Way

If you are interested in real estate for an investment tool, there are easier ways to go about it than having to do renovations and clean backed up toilets yourself! Our favorite means of helping people succeed at Real Estate Investing is to recommend a Real Estate Syndication (click the link to find out more!). Basically real estate syndication is “a partnership to purchase Real Estate. These partnerships can be anything from small joint ventures between 2 investors, all the way up to SEC regulated securities among dozens or hundreds of investors.”

By investing your money through a syndicate you can reap the benefits of real estate investing without having the day-to-day hassles of property maintenance or rehab. If you would like to find out more, give me a call at 720-306-8017 or fill out our investor questionnaire to get started!
