The History of the University of Colorado at Boulder

The University of Colorado is one of the oldest universities and was established in Boulder, Colorado back in 1876. It is considered a very prestigious school, belonging to the esteemed line of public Ivy League schools. The University of Colorado uses the silver and gold mix for its colors although from time to time it also makes use of the black and gold color scheme.

The University of Colorado at BoulderThe overall architecture of the university is known to be “Tuscan Vernacular Revival” which was designed by Charles Klauder. The university also makes use of some Gothic architectural touches. There was a lot of sandstone used to construct the buildings as well as multi-leveled tiled roofs which provide its rustic image. The limestone rims which were also used for the buildings were obtained right from Indiana while the sandstone was carefully selected from a quarry near Lyons Colorado. The university is known for its rugged yet classic feel so fit for the Western states due to the use of these materials.

To date, it is composed of nine different colleges as well as schools. Together it has offered a total of 150 academic programs. The University of Colorado has a long list of esteemed students already with eight MacArthur Fellows and eight Nobel Laureates. Throughout its history it is also proud of spurning 18 astronauts who have given so much recognition and pride to the United States.

The location of the University is very picturesque as its area lies just at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Because of its surrounding area, the University at Boulder is known to be the largest higher education institution within the Intermountain West. It supports a lot of historical studies and departments so it’s quite common for it to receive study grants. It is also known to receive sponsored researches in the field of physics and other sciences.
